If your aquarium heater has stopped working, follow these checks to identify and resolve common issues:
Submersion & Setup
Ensure the heater is fully submerged in the aquarium water.
You should be able to see the heating coils glowing faintly red inside the glass tube when it is active.
Inspection
Examine the glass tube for any hairline cracks or damage.
Confirm that the top of the heater is completely sealed and that the power cable and connection are intact.
Operation
When the heater is running, you may notice an indicator light and a faint clicking sound as the thermostat activates.
The light will switch off once the tank reaches the set temperature and will turn on again as the water cools.
Correct Sizing
Ensure your heater is appropriately sized for your aquarium volume.
General rule: 1 watt of heater power per 1 litre of aquarium water.
An undersized heater may seem faulty if it cannot heat the tank effectively.
